A 45-station perfect binder, the largest and most capable machine of its type in Europe, has been installed at QuadWinkowski.
The Kolbus Publica is equipped with 45 bases. An insert gluer can be installed on each base, reverse or normal aggregate (with ionization bars). The machine has in line three insert gluers (for inserting sachets, CDs, brochures, etc.), three ionization electrodes which help when inserting loose inserts into the book, and four reverse aggregates for "gate fold" type signatures (perfect bound opened from the backbone side). In line with the Kolbus are two Mosca automatic packing machines and a BVM shrinking furnace for shrink polywrap, so packing can take place in line. The maximum speed of this line is 18,000 books per hour.
The high-speed capacity and production capabilities of the perfect binder offer our customers unique opportunities, according to Jakub Dyląg, director of the QuadWinkowski factory in Wyszków. QuadWinkowski customers who have already taken advantage of these capabilities include publishers of Joy, Olivia, Wiener, Ogrody, Ładny Dom, White Dwarf Magazine, Marie Claire and Elle.
Investment in this equipment enables QuadWinkowski to save time, which is especially important for our customers. For example, instead of gluing, inserting or foiling on different machines, we are now able to perform all these operations in line on the perfect binder, explains Piotr Turski, technical specialist in the Wyszków Finishing Department at QuadWinkowski.
The Kolbus Publica is run by two operators on each shift who have been previously
working on other perfect binding machines at QuadWinkowski. They received special training for operators at the Kolbus facility in Germany. In addition, two groups of QuadWinkowski workers received training for operations and makereadies on the perfect binder.
