Two college students have been selected from among 10 finalists to receive the annual Passport scholarship to study and work in the United States. Marta Małkowska from Warsaw attends SGH, and Tomasz Szmit from Gorzow Wielkopolski attends the University of Szczecin. Both will spend one year studying at a graphics arts college and working at Quad/Graphics.
Following a two-day final selection process, the two were chosen by a selection commission consisting of Anna Krowickiej, Director of Human Resources; Hanna Rochowiak, HR specialist from Pila; and two former scholarship students, Aleksandra Grządziel, Lean; and Joanna Chamerę, Deputy Director for Purchasing. “All the candidates were very well prepared. We took into account whether the people who go on scholarship will likely continue with our company after returning.”
Tomasz is a student in his final year at the University of Szczecin, where he studies Management and Production Engineering. He is writing his thesis on IT tools and procedures used by printing managers. He previously studied one year in Great Britain while working in a restaurant in Manchester. Thomas enjoys cooking, so a study team developed a series of his recipes on DVD to encourage students in the art of cooking. In his spare time he helps his father with the promotion of their company’s Web site and online store, as well as the preparation of posters and labels for company vehicles.
Marta became interested in our company, and printing in general, after participating in the work and travel program in the United States where she worked in binding at Quad/Graphics. After returning to the study of international economic relations at the School of Economics, she decided to work on an analysis of printing markets in Poland and abroad. “In connection with my diploma, I visited the Poznań Fair this year. There I met Mrs. Chamerę, who further encouraged me to enter the competition to study in the USA,” Marta said.
All candidates were required to prepare an essay on a subject dealing with printing that was evaluated by QuadWinkowski staff, as well as being interviewed. The top candidates were invited to Warsaw, where they worked on a project and gave live presentations to the selection commission.
Winners of the Passport Scholarships who are currently studying and working in the United States are: Rafal Sawicki from Warsaw, a student at Warsaw University of Technology; Katarzyna Wysoczańska and Grzegorz Stortz, both from Szczecin and both students at Szczecin University of Technology.
Past winners of Passport scholarships who are now employed at QuadWinkowski include Grzegorz Pałyska, Manager for Lean; Andrzej Sędziński, Head of Audit Quality; and Alice Grundo with IT.
In addition to the Passport Scholarships, our company will establish a corporate training program. Printing students will learn by working in different departments at QuadWinkowski.
