Digital Proofs

Along with your print files you should include contract color proofs. This is especially important for advertisements and other areas such as logos or products. Contract color proofs should be made according to ISO 12647–7/2007 standard. If color proofs aren't available the press will run using best practices based on the ISO 12647–2 standard. The customer may order proofs from the printing plant.

Every proof must have an UGRA/Fogra strip printed from the side of the page or the Quad v1.1 Winkowski stripe which will allow measurement and certification. Proofs without the test stripe will not be considered a contract proof.

Some systems expect the strip is placed in both a vertical and horizontal position. In case of problems your CSR will be glad to help.

It is important that the color proofs are output using the right ICC profile. QuadWinkowski can supply this profile, for a given paper, according to the specifications for press in the offset ISO 12647-2 standard. This profile will simulate the behavior of the press on the contract proofing device. The profile is available from your CSR.

The proofing System should be regularly calibrated to maintain consistent results. ICC profiles obtained from QuadWinkowski should be used in your proofing system and as well as calibrated using it. The profile should be calibrated with a measuring device using an ECI 2002 target. This will help reproducing accurate colors.

The color proof should be made after final corrections on the file intended for printing. Every proof should be labeled with the publication title, issue, and page number.
